A movie that made me smile

By Malin, June 29, 2009 23:25

happy go luckyI didn’t quite get what the movie, Happy-Go-Lucky, was about, it’s lacking a real plot, but it made me smile. You should see it! I think we all have something to learn from Poppy!

Poppy (Sally Hawkins) is an irrepressibly cheerful primary school teacher who won’t let anyone or anything get her down. Even when her bicycle, which she so happily rides through the busy streets of London is stolen, her first thought is only: “I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye.”

Living with her flatmate Zoe (Alexis Zegerman), Poppy has a gift for making the most of life. Determined to learn to drive, she finds herself matched with Scott (Eddie Marsan), an uptight driving instructor who is everything she is not.

From Director Mike Leigh (Vera Drake) HAPPY-GO-LUCKY is a laugh-out-loud comedy about having fun, looking for love and getting on with life.

The largest bead picture in the world

The largest bead picture in the world - Barack Obama
It just came to my knowledge that a Swedish company, PhotoPearls, has with the help of fourth grade students from every state in the USA and the Craft and Hobby Association, created the largest bead picture in the world!

The fourth graders used PhotoPearls® (a program where you can create a bead project from any digital photo) to create a photo mosaic of President Barack Obama made entirely of hollow plastic beads. It will be given as a gift to the president on his birthday.

The portrait was created with 372 600 pearls and measures 9 x 11 ½ foot! Amazing!

Compared to that project, my bead creations feels so small ;)

Another ending…

By Malin, June 17, 2009 20:17

flowersI just found out that my grandmother died earlier today. I was never close to her for some reason, even though I learned a lot from her when I was a child.

This means I have to go to the funeral. I haven’t gotten over my other grandmother’s death and funeral yet and I think it will be really hard for me to go. I just can’t handle my feelings when it comes to old people, death and funerals, I just can’t.

And it will be hard to see my family as well. We don’t talk about feelings (sorrow or love) in our family, ever. It feels like I have to put on a hard face to maintain our non-feelings relationship. And I don’t want to be the one to teach them how wrong it is. Of course, I talk and cry to my mom when I’m depressed and everything, but it’s not the same. Everything is so complicated and I don’t know how to take it all in and how to react. Frustrating.

Geisha Bargain

By Malin, June 9, 2009 20:53

geisha dolls - geisha dockor

I think they are supposed to look like geishas ;). Anyway, for a couple a months ago I saw these cute things (Kokeshi dolls) at Åhléns. Back then they cost 95 SEK (~$12.39) each – waaay overpriced. Today I found them for 25 SEK (~$3.26) each. Bargain! However, when I was going to remove the sticky pricetag on the pink one, as you can see, a bit color fell off from it. Damnit! Poor quality! Thank god they were so cheap! :P

You can find these type of geishas almost at every interior design shop these days, but according to me, most of them are overpriced.
tokidoki geisha

But the ones I bought can’t compete with for example this cool geisha from Tokidoki.

Wisdom tooth removal

By Malin, June 8, 2009 22:02

wisdom tooth removalToday I had my first wisdom tooth removal. It was place like the on you see on the picture (not my picture) pressing against the other and causing painful tensions in my head.

I thought I would scream of the pain when they removed it, but it actually went quite well. I got all shaky when the anesthesia kicked in (taking all these anesthesia shots actually hurt more than the removal) so I had to lie down for a bit.

All in all, it went over my expectations. I have a feeling that I might have to remove the other three as well some time.

However, my jaw is hurting like hell right now and I guess I have to stick with it for a few days. And it will definetly hurt even more when the bill arrives!

First package from E.L.F

By Malin, June 5, 2009 23:12

Got my very first package from eyeslipsface.co.uk in the mail today (it took a week to get it). E.L.F is a cosmetics company with very low prices ($1 a piece). And I was curious of some of their things so when I had the ability to add a free shipping coupon I took the chance to order some stuff.

I got the Eyelash and Brow Wand, Slant Tweezer, Feather Proof Moisturizing Lip Liner in the color Natural Blush and a Plumping Lip Glaze in the color Ruby Kiss.

  • The Eyelash and Brow Wand does what it should even though I think it’s in poor quality.
  • The Slant Tweezer has a good grip and that’s about it. I think my old one is better!
  • The Feather Proof Moisturising Lip Line was really good, even though the color was a bit darker than shown. The lips didn’t get dry (I use it to color all of the lip area, like a lipstick sort of, to get the matte natural look) and I had it on for several hours.
  • The Plumping Lip Glaze had the right color. It has two sides, a glossy side with a minty smell that really tingles upon application (and for quite a while afterward – it feels like the lips get bigger but they don’t) and a color side. The color is great (I’m not sure how long it can stay on though) but it has an unpleasant chemical smell, I didn’t like it much. It looked pretty though!

I’m not sure if I’m going to order again, but I think you can get both good and bad products from E.L.F and it’s worth trying out if you want cheap cosmetics. Don’t have too high hopes!
