Google Page Creator
A couple of days ago I decided to try out Google’s Page Creator. I had some old stuff I found in the closet that I thought I could try to sell, so I saw it as an opportunity to try the Page Creator out. I wanted to display my stuff as fast as possible without setting up space on a server or pay a fee on ie eBay to get people to look at what I have to sell. Also, I wanted to be able to edit the site when I’m at work, and at work we have slow computers and an old version of IE.
Google’s Page creator is actually really neat at the job! Even if there are quite some things to improve.
My “for sale”-page: http://morbidic.googlepages.com/
My test page with gadgets: http://morbidic.googlepages.com/test
Good things:
- You 100mb space where you can upload images and such that you would like to display on your page.
- There are several nice and clean styles to choose from.
- You can choose from one single column to three columns in every style.
- Auto saving!
- Add images from url or uploaded images, crop, auto-thumbnails, rotate, change brightness, colors, etc, without even doing any coding!
- Auto-styling of headers.
- You can view the coding in HTML (and make changes) however, you can’t change the style itself.
- Adding gadgets with a few clicks (a little skeptic about this one)
- Undo and redo functions!
- Up to five different addresses.
- All drag and drop baby!
Bad things:
- The coding will never (?) be valid.
- I’m missing the table function. Doing a table with one click is what everybody wants right? ;)
- In some styles when you choose more than one column the columns isn’t aligned properly.
- If you aren’t careful when jumping around with text and images the outcome might not look the same in IE and Firefox.
- Too many gadgets are still under development and might not work as they should. The worst thing is that you can’t change the size of some of them so ie it could fit the sidebar.
- As with Blogger.com (but not anymore!) Page Creator uses the Publish function AND the save function. You might forget to click on “Publish” before you view the site and then the changes you have made won’t be shown.
To sum it all up I would say it’s a neat tool for newbies or for those that doesn’t have the time.
I’m not sure why I decided to do this list since it’s not a real review. But I’m really bored!
Let’s not forget that the Page Creator is still in the “Labs” (under development). So I might just change the list later on.

Those sorts of programs are great and convenient for getting a job done quickly (like your page of things for sale). Otherwise, it takes the creativity out of things. I’ll take the lovely simplicity of notepad anyday!

Neat and convenient, I’d say. I’ve tried fooling around with it myself, and I find it simple.
