Manipulate your Alexa rankings
As we all know, the Alexa rankings doesn’t show any real statistics for your blog since it’s very easy to manipulate it. Alexa rankings has been a way for “paid to post”-sites to value your blog and to determined how much you should get paid.
Recently, PayPerPost deleted this ranking within their system My mistake - it’s the Technorati ranking - one step at the time! (it’s funny that they took Technorati first since it’s much more easy to manipulate the Alexa, right?), not a day too early if you ask me.
However I would like to do the same experiment as Jem did on her site. And even though that experiment proved that it is possible to manipulate it just by surfing your own site with any of the Alexa-based toolbars (for IE - Alexa.com and for FF - SearchStatus) I still want to do this cause I have nothing better to do.
I’ve just installed the toolbar for Firefox and now I’m going to surf around two of my sites for about a week to see if something happens with the rankings.
Statistics today - June 05:
Infektia.net: 222,985
Notice that the lower the numbers are, the better the ranking is.
So let’s see how it goes, the results will be presented next weekend.
Statistics - August 26:
Infektia.net: 112,822

Hmm, interesting.

My Alexa ranking has improved a lot since installing the plugin, however I haven’t been surfing my own sites anymore than I usually do :)
I thought it was the Technorati ranking though that PPP removed?

Hello! All the best! My blog is on the blogger so you know it is of no use to me.But i wonder how ‘pay for post’ sites will decide how much i should be paid?

So they took out ALEXA eh? That’s good. I was getting declined a lot due to my high ranking.

Nope, the Alexa score is still there. I just logged in and looked. It is indeed Technorati that they removed.

Thanks for pointing it out! I bloody knew it was the Technorati ranking but my tired mind wanted it to be the Alexa. Shit happens too easy when you write in the middle of the night! ;)

Hehe…you’re welcome :) It would be nice if they’d remove the Alexa score though, but alas it is not to be :|

My Alexa rank sucks. I have installed the toolbar though and I don’t mind browsing your site with it. Maybe I should sign up for the mutual review soon!

When you post on message boards, also try to use an alexa redirect, for example http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://www.shadowscope.com AND install one of the Alexa widgets from their site in your sidebar. I only use the Alexa redirect in a few places because I don’t want to hurt my PR, but it does help.

Yeah,
I have noticed my Alexa rank jump a little when I installed the bar myself too.
