Momiji Dolls!

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

English: Momiji dolls are so adorable! Momiji are japanese little message dolls, if you turn one upside down, there is a little secret message inside. You have to write it yourself though! Perfect to give away as a gift! They look very similar to kokeshi dolls! The designs are inspired by Japanese street-fashion, Japanese culture, manga etc.
Below are my favorites from LoveMomiji!

What is gyaru?

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

In Swedish below/På svenska nedan!

I got a few questions regarding my previous post about what gyaru-fashion is. Gyaru is the japanese word for “gal”, you can say it means “trendy girl” and it’s a very girly-glam style fashion trend. They keep up with all the latest trendy clothes, make-up and accessories and they are usually in their teens up to their early twenties.

Ganguro Gyaru

The name originates from the late 70′s and early 80′s from a brand of jeans called “Gals”. The gyaru subculture is huge in Japan and there are several subcategories. Here are a few subcategories;

  • Gyaru kei – gals who generally doesn’t have a tan, this is the general style , I believe this is the most popular one.
  • Ganguro – gal with a deep tan.
  • Manba – gal with a deeper tan and heavy white makeup and heavily bleached hair.
  • Himegyaru – gal who dress like a princess and wear expensive designer clothes.

Like I said there are many variations, some go for the more “quiet” look and some take it to the extreme (these are the ones you usually see if you search for gyaru-images).

I’m not really a fan of the style with deep fake tans, bleached hair and heavy white makeup, just can’t understand it ;). But it’s fun to watch though! I’m more in to the gyaru kei-style, I believe that celebrities like Namie Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki belongs to this category. The general gyaru style is also the one you can see in fashion magazines like EGG.

Love For Japan

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

I totally forgot to mention that I decided to show Japan some support a few weeks ago. The lovely Maria decided to let people buy her book “From Tokyo With Love – Mitt liv i technicolor” and then she gave away all the money to Red Cross Japan! So yeah I bought one! It’s pretty! :D

Shibuhara Girls

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Remember The Hills or The City on MTV? I do! I followed them closely! It’s kind of addictive once you seen a few episodes.

But now it’s Japan’s turn! The show is called Shibuhara Girls and the story is pretty much the same. It’s about a few girls trying to become stars in the fashion and entertainment industry in  Shibuya and Harajuku districts in Tokyo.
Unlike the american tv-shows, the girls in  Shibuhara Girls are already somewhat famous.

Shibuhara Girls

Shibuhara Girls will be the first ever reality show made in Japan by MTV. The show will be debuting on MTV Japan on January 8th and on MTV S.E.A. February 5th, 2010 at 1PM SIN/HK/PHIL time, with plenty of repeats to follow later on in the week in case you miss it the first time around. Considering MTV practically invented the reality show genre, it’s about time Japan got one, too.

Apparently, it aired yesterday. Did anyone see it?

My Cute Bento Box

bento box

I have just re-discovered my very cute bento box (bento = “Japanese word for a meal served in a box”) I bought from Japan (or was it China?) a year ago or so. My bento box is a two tier box. It has one movable divider in the biggest tier (awesome!), chopsticks in the top layer and one lunch box belt.

I’m yet again going to cut down on what I eat to loose more weight and this little box is just the right thing for it. I can fit everything I need in to that box and it won’t be too much for me to eat. Besides, since it is so cute, I like to cook my own food (instead of fast food) to put in it, it’s healthier for sure! But I don’t make any art bento, takes too much time ;).

I have the coolest lunch box at work!
