Trying out Google Adsense for content

I’ve been trying out Google Adsense for a couple of months now, especially on infektia.net, for some reason my visitors aren’t attracted to Google ads. Well I haven’t really slapped them in your face either so that’s one thing to count in. And I probably don’t write about great amazing things either so related ads haven’t had the chance to pop up.
I know Adsense doesn’t work for everyone but I just had to try it out. I really didn’t have any hopes to make money through it anyways but I will keep the ads up though, I like to experiment.
Do you use Adsense on your blog/site? How much do you earn?

I’ve tried Google Adsense since like 2005 I think. I don’t get much and it actually took me two years before I got my 1st ever check (100USD). Because my pages are more optimized now than before, I think I’ll be getting my next check by the end of the year or so (;_;). It would really help if you have pages that are prone to search results.

I tried for a while this year, and I slapped my readers with it at all turns.
It produced like 12 cents.
I then had a HUGE spike in traffic, and still nothing.
So now i just keep them in the “donations” page of my site.
I still get very little.

I think Google works better on niche blogs. Because the people who visit them will probably also be interested in the ads. I think the more general a blog is the less clicks you get.

It varies a lot. Blogs tend not to do that well with adsense on the whole, or at least mine don’t.
You also have the problem that if you do paid posts then you have to make sure that the ads aren’t inside the posts. Unfortunately, the very best ad placement is the big square inside the post!
I thought it would have been a waste of time but I’ve been doing OK on the link units on posts. For some reason, they seem to come up with ads that are more relevant than the normal adsense blocks.
Finally, don’t forget that you can replace the normal search box with the adsense one. Haven’t done this on the blog as yet but I’d have thought that, in principle, it would do quite well on a blog.

No, I do not use adsense despite being advised by other bloggers to do so. I do not get any advertising at all. Once my blog builds up a respectable traffic, I shall consider private advertising.

@Arnold: I haven’t thought about replacing my old search box with Google’s. It might be worth to try out. Thanks for reminding me!

Actually, it’s thanks to you, as it only struck me to do it when I was reading your post!
One thing that you’ll quickly notice is that the front page of the blog gets irrelevant adverts most of the time. That’s basically because adsense needs to learn about a page therefore it doesn’t work well on dynamic pages. However, it works great on the archives.
To “help” it along, it’s useful to put a category cloud to the left of your blog posts as adsense appears to read left to right. So, for example on mine, you should see most of the ads related broadly to France at the moment. Although, courtesy of the paid posts, the bias is moving more to America.
